1993年，澳大利亚科学院院士、政府友谊奖获得者查尔斯·雷伊·麦凯第一次来到中国，当时的记忆虽已模糊，但30几年前的出国经历让他与中国结下了不解之缘。
In 1993, Charles Reay Mackay, a fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, came to China for the first time. Although his memory at that time is blurred, the experience of going abroad more than 30 years ago made him forge an indissoluble bond with China.
查尔斯·麦凯1987年获得澳大利亚大学博士学位，2009年当选澳大利亚科学院院士，在免疫学基础研究和治疗产品研发转化等领域造诣深厚。在澳大利亚执教生涯中，曾经指导过许多优秀的中国学生或华裔学生。
Charles Mackay received his doctorate from the University of Australia in 1987, and was elected a fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences in 2009. He has profound attains in the fields of basic research in immunology and the development and transformation of therapeutic products. During his teaching career in Australia, he has coached many outstanding Chinese students.
直到2017年，在自己教导的中国学生介绍和推荐下，对科学始终充满兴趣和追求、对中国满怀期待的查尔斯·麦凯来到中国，成为山东省科学院特聘首席专家。“我很震惊中国对医学研究的热情，对我来说在济南的机会真的很特别，我可以在这里组建一个团队，开展一些在澳大利亚难以实现的大规模项目，澳大利亚的研究经费非常紧张，所以对我来说来到这里是自然而然的事情。”
Until 2017, under the introduction and recommendation of a Chinese student he taught, Charles Mackay, who has always been interested in and pursuing science and is full of expectations for China, came to China and became the chief expert specially appointed by Shandong Academy of Sciences. I was blown away by the enthusiasm for medical research in China, and for me, the opportunity in Jinan is really special, where I can put together a team to carry out some large-scale projects that would be difficult to achieve in Australia, where research funding is very tight, so I came here automatically.
查尔斯·麦凯与山东省科学院、山东省科创集团有限公司联合创办了山东善维免疫科技有限公司，基于他原创并倡导的“营养-肠道菌群-生理机能”轴理论，针对溃疡性结肠炎、系统性红斑狼疮等免疫系统疾病和机体免疫失衡问题，研发相关防治药物和健康产品。
Charles Mackay co-founded Shandong Shanwei Immune Technology Co., Ltd. with Shandong Academy of Sciences and Shandong SCI-TECH Innovation Group Co., LTD. Based on his original and advocated axis theory of nutrition - intestinal flora - physiological function, he developed relevant prevention and treatment drugs and health products for immune system diseases such as ulcerative colitis and systemic lupus erythematosus and the immune imbalance of the body.
“我们公司主要是理解和鉴定重要的有益肠道菌群代谢产物，通过化学手段连接到一个淀粉骨架结构上，然后通过类似于食物或者中药的方式来干预人类疾病，相比传统化学药物，这是一种更安全的革命性的产品。”查尔斯·麦凯表示，在他最初刚到山东济南时，只是带来了创新想法，经过几年合作发展，现在有了一个强大的团队，并设立了一个公司，这些创新想法能够在这里实现非常好，未来有可能也会取得很大的突破。
Our company is focused on understanding and identifying important beneficial gut microbiota metabolites, chemically binding to a starchy skeleton structure, and then intervening in human disease in a way similar to food or traditional Chinese medicine, which is a revolutionary product that is safer than traditional chemical drugs. Charles Mackay said that when he first arrived in Jinan, Shandong province, he only brought innovative ideas. 2022年是查尔斯·麦凯来到济南的第五个年头，这一年对他来说意义非凡。2022年度中国政府友谊奖颁奖仪式在人民大会堂举行，荣获中国政府友谊奖的查尔斯·麦凯接受国务院总理会见。“我得到了漂亮的奖牌，我将珍藏一生，我对此感到非常自豪。”查尔斯·麦凯说。
The year 2022 was Charles McKay's fifth year in Jinan, and it was a special year for him. The awarding ceremony of the 2022 Chinese Government Friendship Award was held at the Great Hall of the People. Charles Mackay, winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, received a meeting with the Chinese Premier of The State Council. I will cherish this medal for the rest of my life. I am very proud of this honor. Charles McKay said.
中国政府友谊奖是中国政府为表彰在中国现代化建设和改革开放事业中作出突出贡献的外国专家而设立的最高奖项。近年来，济南市已有12位外国专家荣获中国政府友谊奖，体现出国家对济南市外国专家在推动高质量发展、新时代社会主义现代化强省会建设中所作贡献的高度认可。
The Chinese Government Friendship Award is the highest award established by the Chinese government to grant honors and rewards to foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's modernization drive as well as reform and opening up. In recent years, 12 foreign experts in Jinan have won the Chinese Government Friendship Award, reflecting the country's high recognition of the contribution of foreign experts in Jinan in promoting high-quality development and building a modern socialist capital in the new era.
“我经常骑着我的自行车外出，路上人们会主动跟我说像‘你好’这样的问候，感觉真的很不错。”查尔斯·麦凯说。截止2024年7月底，济南市已与48个国家的89个城市建立友好关系，其中与26个国家的29个城市结为友好城市，与36个国家的60个城市结为友好合作城市，友城网络覆盖五大洲。
I often go out on my bike. People often say things like 'hello' to me, and it's really nice. Charles McKay said. By the end of July 2024, Jinan had established friendly relations with 89 cities in 48 countries, of which 29 cities in 26 countries had become sister cities, and 60 cities in 36 countries had become friendly cooperation cities. The network of friendly cities covers five continents.
